ICANN has confirmed that starting November 16, national and territorial registries may apply for country-code top level domain names (e.g. ".hk" or ".jp") that are represented by 17 local language characters other than English. To be operational in mid-2010, ICANN expects Chinese, Arabic, and Russian domains as the first few to implemented.
